KingKaew Restaurant is a floating architectural structure that redefines dining as an immersive engagement with the water. The design emerges from the notion that architecture should not resist water, but live with it, and in this case, float upon it. Situated over a calm waterbody, the restaurant’s foundation rests on a buoyant platform engineered to withstand rising and falling water levels, making it both poetic and climate-resilient.
The building is arranged in a cross-axial layout, allowing views and ventilation to flow freely in all directions. Diners are oriented toward the natural horizon, surrounded by water lilies, reflections, and soft breezes. Rooflines are lifted and curved, echoing the fluidity of the surrounding water and ensuring effective rainwater drainage and solar shading. The architectural palette is restrained and nature-infused: bamboo screens, timber cladding, woven rattan ceilings, and lightweight steel framing that allows openness without structural heaviness. A wide open deck on the perimeter blurs the boundary between structure and nature, inviting guests to move freely between shaded interior spaces and water-edge zones.
