Impregnable POD

The Impregnable POD is a flood-resilient micro-housing prototype designed for vulnerable canal-side communities in Bangkok. Submitted to the Volume Zero Competition in 2022, the project proposes a prefabricated floating unit made from fiberglass-reinforced plastic, engineered to withstand floods while promoting a self-sustaining lifestyle.

Occupying a footprint of just 16 sq.m. (10 sq.m. usable), the pod includes integrated systems for energy production, water storage, trash collection, fish farming, and waste management. Its multifunctional interior adapts to resting and working modes through movable beds, foldable stairs, and a flexible plan layout. The design integrates solar panels, hydraulic power, and garbage booms, offering both autonomy and utility in water-based environments.

Beyond individual resilience, the pods can be deployed as part of a floating community network, transforming hazard-prone zones into sustainable micro-neighborhoods. The project envisions new typologies of living that are modular, mobile, and responsive to climate risks—redefining urban adaptation from the scale of the individual outward.
