Madinat Alma “City of Water” proposes a future urban fabric where architecture and water coexist in resilient symbiosis. As climate crises reshape our cities, this proposal envisions housing not only as a shelter, but as a hydrological infrastructure, absorbing, storing, filtering, and reusing water through integrated spatial systems.
Developed through the collaboration between Volume Matrix Studio and NPPN Design and Research, the project integrates cultural typologies with modular architecture to support collective living and environmental adaptation. A dynamic framework of courtyards, water gardens, shaded arcades, and living roofs interweaves the everyday with ecological function.
Selected as one of the Top 14 finalists in the Mimaria Studio International Competition 2024, Madinat Alma showcases an architectural vision grounded in inclusivity, environmental consciousness, and resilient design for arid and flood-prone futures.
