The Innovative Housing Project at Nak Niwat 40 rethinks conventional housing typology through a synthesis of climate resilience, social engagement, and spatial inversion. In an area vulnerable to frequent flooding, the project elevates public and communal space to the second floor, reassigning traditional residential zoning to create both safety and opportunity for shared interaction.

The flood adaptation framework is twofold: 1) Resist Component: Strategically placed flood walls encase the site, offering a primary line of defense against high water levels. These are integrated into the landscaping and edge design, forming part of the project’s architectural language. 2) Delay Component: A unique stacked roof system acts as a water delay mechanism, designed to absorb, store, and gradually release rainfall, allowing time for evacuation or emergency response.

Beyond performance, the project takes on visual and conceptual ambition through the use of “shed and shadow” as design metaphors. The architectural form plays with sharp eaves, layered surfaces, and filtered daylight to create a living structure that is dynamic and contextually sensitive. The façade shifts depending on sun and weather, becoming an active participant in the street life of the neighborhood.
