Everyday Life – A Colorful Lives
Kaeng Khoi: Everyday Life – A Colorful Lives is a visionary urban and landscape design proposal that repositions Kaeng Khoi—a historic riverside district in Saraburi—as a creative, livable, and memory-rich city. Framed by the Pasak River and embedded in the legacy of land, water, and rail-based transport, Kaeng Khoi holds layers of untold stories—from World War II bombing raids to the spiritual gravity of Luang Por La and temple-centered traditions.
However, in the age of high-speed mobility and bypass infrastructure, Kaeng Khoi has faded into a transitional town—passed over rather than visited. This project aims to reignite the urban spirit of Kaeng Khoi by drawing from its historical narratives, local ways of life, and spatial opportunities to create a vibrant public realm. The proposal focuses on transforming the old railway community, which faces erasure by upcoming high-speed rail development, into a village of everyday life—where heritage houses are adaptively reused as cafés, galleries, and micro-businesses, and the former station becomes a civic anchor.
The riverfront is reimagined as an inclusive linear park, connecting wooden shopfronts of the Tha Nam market with quiet places of rest and activity along the Pasak River. This layered system of nature, commerce, and memory supports both locals and visitors—making space for daily life, weekend tourism, and seasonal events. The design upgrades Riap Santisuk Road into a city plaza and economic artery, integrating green infrastructure with marketplaces, pop-up retail, and art installations. At the heart of the community, Kaeng Khoi Temple and its surroundings are framed by a heritage walk that weaves through local histories, homes, and shops, cultivating a slow, respectful urban tempo.
With its emphasis on “Everyday Life” and “A Colorful Lives”, the proposal seeks to convert Kaeng Khoi from a pass-through town into a must-experience destination, reflecting the vibrancy, resilience, and unique identity of its people. The project positions Kaeng Khoi as a national model for historically grounded urban regeneration, where past and future are not in conflict, but in continuity.
