Time of Togetherness: “Tam Tad” as Conceptual Space
In ASA Expo 2023, nppn design and research took part in conceptualizing and designing the central exhibition space under the theme “Tam Tad: Time of Togetherness.” Inspired by the well-known Thai dish “ตำถาด” (Tam Tad), a vibrant, flavorful platter that brings together diverse ingredients, the event reimagined this cultural reference as a metaphor for architectural dialogue, diversity, and collective creativity.
Just as Tam Tad blends spicy, sour, salty, and sweet flavors into a single shared meal, the exhibition became a platform of convergence, bringing together voices from four major architectural associations and the Council of Architects. Architects from various generations, disciplines, and regional backgrounds were invited to share, exchange, and co-create ideas toward a more sustainable architectural future.
Our design role focused on translating this culinary metaphor into spatial structure and experience. The event layout was conceived as an open, inclusive “platter” of knowledge, where pavilions, installations, and gathering zones acted like components of a shared meal. Each element was intentionally diverse in form, material, and interaction, yet designed to connect seamlessly through circulation, programming, and spatial rhythm.
This project exemplifies nppn’s design philosophy: to use structure not just as form, but as framework for conversation, inclusion, and resilience. Through this event, we explored how architecture can foster togetherness, not only in built environments, but in ideas, professions, and generations.
